When Farmer Jack was edited out of the show after filming, so too were his single ladies.

In 2024 Farmer Wants a Wife was Seven’s biggest entertainment series.

So it’s no surprise that heaven and earth have been moved to protect the 2025 series after it was necessary to excise one of the participants in post-production. After all it has always purported to be TV’s down-to-earth, authentic reality dating show, even if that’s a bit of a stretch…

Nobody is saying on the record, but there is plenty of speculation in media articles as to why five farmers became four this year.

In fact last July when presenting 8 potential farmers for single ladies to apply, Seven announced 6 would feature in the show (5 main launch cast, 1 twist.)

By November Upfronts it issued show photography with 5 farmers (top photo)

By March when teasers began to appear it was down to 4 farmers, not forgetting that the show is not without ‘twists’ of new farmers intruding mid-season. TV Tonight understands there will be 1 intruder twist this year.

But rule out any possibility of Farmer Jack.

“Eureka and Seven have decided not to include Jack Rowlandson’s storyline in the new season of Farmer Wants A Wife. We will not be providing any further comment,” a Seven spokesperson said.

Cutting someone from a show such as Farmer Wants a Wife is messy stuff.

The show always opens with ladies in the Great Cask Hall at the aptly-named Hope Estate in the Hunter Valley as the single blokes arrive to cheers and giggles. There are wide shots, group shots and at least 8 single ladies who will also be culled from the series given Farmer Jack’s excise. In Reality TV, they too are subject to non-disclosure agreements….

Producers Eureka won’t confirm how much editing or how much reshooting took place in order to make the storyline seamless, but at the very least having 4 farmers and host Natalie Gruzlewski regroup at Hope Estate would be frustrating for all concerned -that’s without reshooting any other gatherings where all 5 farmers are together.

But with a show worth so much to network and production company, it’s a small price to pay in order to protect the brand.

Farmer Wants a Wife is hardly the first to have faced such headaches, with The Biggest Loser infamously having to edit out a contestant in 2010 and The X Factor needing to recast its host days before premiering also in 2010.

Those remaining in this year’s Farmer remain committed to the show’s aspirations of Reality dating and hayseed romance and thanks to production, viewers won’t notice any hint of behind the scenes drama when it premieres this week on Seven.

7:30pm Monday & Tuesday on Seven.

  2. Missing contestants in the 2025 Australian Survivor also raised questions from survivor fans as one male contestant vanished resulting in a non elimination tribal council and was never mentioned again (plus limited airtime during the series), plus one contestant quitting tribal council, all sorts of rumours spreading online so makes you wonder if best they just address the issue or is it best to let the rumour mill run wild instead?

    1. Agree – the rumours are almost always far worse than the facts.
